Udta Punjab was said to have been leaked online two day’s before it’s actual release. However the film’s team had the download links taken down due to copyrights issue.
The film is an upcoming crime thriller co written and directed by Abhishek Chaubey, based on the drug abuse in Punjab. produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures, in association with Phantom Films. It features Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Diljit Dosanjh in the main cast.
On Wednesday afternoon, Abhishek Chaubey directorial, Udta Punjab, which was in the news for it’s clash with the censor board was reportedly leaked on torrents. But was later taken down after a, “Copyrights complaint”.
As per the online platforms which had leaked shots of the movie, it was evident that it was the same copy that was given to the Censor Board, as it contained some scenes that the Board objected to.
Udta Punjab was asked by the Censor Board to make 89 cuts, however later on the revising committee brought it down to 13 cuts, and finally the High Court gave a thumbs up for release making just one cut and three disclaimers. The issue the Censor Board saw was that the film portrayed Punjab in a low key way. Highlighting it’s problem with drugs. Since the film is based on the persistent drug problem in Punjab, it does not make sense that the Board asked the producers and the director to make no mention of the state.
